Maswa is a district town in the Simiyu region of northern Tanzania, on the wide, gently rolling plains between Lake Victoria and the Serengeti. From above, the town forms a loose cluster of streets around a crossing of main roads. The streets thin out quickly into fields and scattered homesteads. The plan is simple and the ground is mostly flat, so the few main lines on the map carry most of the image.
The district is known for agriculture, cotton among its main crops, and for the Maswa Game Reserve to the east, which borders the Serengeti and forms part of the wider ecosystem that wildlife moves through. The town itself works as a local centre for markets, schools and administration, serving a mainly rural population.
