Mbinga sits in the highlands of Ruvuma Region in southwestern Tanzania, where the land rises in folds and ridges before dropping away toward Lake Nyasa further west. From above, the town reads as a loose cluster of streets gathered where roads meet, with lanes that bend to follow the slopes rather than any grid laid out on paper.
