Suburban grid
Evenly spaced residential streets form dense rows of small blocks. It is a clear example of the Chicago-area street plan carried out into the suburbs.

Mapa
Melrose Park Map Poster & Print
Melrose Park is a village in Cook County, part of the band of suburbs just west of Chicago. From above, it shows the typical Chicagoland pattern: a steady grid of residential streets, wide arterial roads at regular intervals, and large industrial parcels where the grid gives way to warehouses, plants and rail lines.
The village has long had a strong Italian-American community. Its best-known tradition is the summer feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, one of the longest-running religious festivals in the Chicago area. The Des Plaines River runs nearby, and the forest preserves along its banks add a green, irregular edge to an otherwise straight-lined part of the map.
A Melrose Park map poster contrasts small and large. Fine residential blocks sit beside the broad shapes of industry and transport. Arterials and freight corridors cut through the grid, and neighbouring suburbs continue the same pattern right to the edge of the sheet.

Industrial corridors
Large parcels and rail lines break the grid into wide, open shapes. They add weight and contrast to the composition.
River woodland
The Des Plaines River and its forest preserves lie nearby. Their irregular green edge softens the straight lines of the surrounding streets.
