Mapa
Mönchengladbach Map Poster & Print
Mönchengladbach lies west of the Rhine near the Dutch border, and its map shows a city with two centres. The old town of Gladbach sits on a hill around the abbey church in the north. Rheydt, which merged with it in the twentieth century, has its own centre to the south. Between and around them, residential streets and former industrial areas form a broad, continuous network.
The Abteiberg, the abbey hill, holds the Minster and the Museum Abteiberg, a museum of modern art designed by Hans Hollein and opened in 1982. The city grew with the textile industry, which earned it the nickname of the Rhenish Manchester. Many of its long straight roads and railway lines date from that period.
For many people, the city means Borussia Mönchengladbach, whose stadium stands in the Nordpark area. A Mönchengladbach map poster shows the two historic centres and the railway lines. It also shows the green spaces around Schloss Rheydt and the Niers valley, a composition more varied than the city's size might suggest.

Two city centres
Gladbach and Rheydt each keep their own core, so the map shows two dense clusters linked by main roads and the railway.
Niers valley
The small river Niers runs through the south-east of the city. Meadows and the grounds of Schloss Rheydt form a green band along its course.
