Mollet del Vallès lies in the Vallès Oriental comarca of Catalonia, about twenty kilometres north of Barcelona. On a map, it's a compact and dense town, with an older centre of narrow streets surrounded by blocks of flats built during the industrial growth of the twentieth century. Railway lines and major roads border and cross the municipality.
To the north lies Gallecs, a protected rural area of fields, farmhouses and woods that was once intended for urban expansion and has instead been preserved as open land. The contrast between this agricultural space and the tightly built town is one of the most striking features of the map.
