Moncada lies in the Horta Nord, the irrigated farmland just north of Valencia. Its centre is a dense cluster of narrow streets around the parish church and main square. Newer districts extend outward in more regular blocks, and the whole town sits on flat ground that the city has not quite absorbed, with fields still visible between the settlements on the map.
The Real Acequia de Moncada, a medieval irrigation channel, carries water from the Turia across a wide stretch of the huerta, and its name is tied to the town. On a Moncada map poster the surrounding land becomes a mesh of small, elongated plots and farm tracks, precise and repetitive, pressing right up to the built edge.
The metro line to Valencia and the roads toward the coast and the interior link Moncada to the city, yet the town keeps its own identity and scale.
