Munūf lies in the Monufia Governorate, in the heart of the Nile Delta between the two main branches of the river. From above, the town is a dense cluster of narrow streets. It is surrounded by a patchwork of fields that are divided by canals and irrigation ditches. Roads and waterways often run side by side, and the edges of the town merge into the farmland.
The delta is one of the oldest farming landscapes in the world, and the map shows how carefully it is divided.
