Mustafakemalpaşa lies in the western part of Bursa Province, on the river of the same name, which flows north toward Lake Uluabat and the Marmara lowlands. The town sits on a fertile plain. From above, its compact centre sits along the river, with fields and orchards laid out around it in a patchwork of plots.
The river is the town's main line. The older quarter sits beside it, and bridges connect the two banks, including a historic Ottoman stone bridge. The town was known as Kirmasti until 1923, when it was renamed in honour of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. In Turkey it is especially known for a local cheese dessert that takes its name from the town. The surrounding plain is used for intensive agriculture, and that pattern fills much of the map.
