Narsimhapur is the headquarters of its district in central Madhya Pradesh. It lies in the broad, fertile valley of the Narmada, one of India's most revered rivers. The town is named after a temple dedicated to Narasimha, the man-lion form of Vishnu, and that temple is still a focus for the older part of town.
