Mapa
Naya Gaon Map Poster & Print
Naya Gaon lies in Punjab, just outside the north-western boundary of Chandigarh, near the foot of the Shivalik hills. Its location shapes its character. It is close enough to the Union Territory to serve as a home for many who work there, but it developed outside the planned city's strict rules.
The map makes the contrast obvious. Next door, Chandigarh is divided into Le Corbusier's large rectangular sectors, separated by wide, straight roads and green belts. Naya Gaon, by contrast, is a dense tangle of irregular streets and lanes that grew incrementally. The hills rise to the north, and seasonal streams leave traces through the landscape.
A Naya Gaon map poster works well precisely because of that meeting of plan and improvisation. Framed tightly on the town or drawn to include the edge of Chandigarh's grid, it gives a revealing image of how cities actually grow.
