The Newry Canal
The historic canal runs as a firm straight line through the city beside the river. It is one of the oldest engineered waterways in these islands, and it gives the poster its main axis.

Mapa
Newry Map Poster & Print
Newry lies in the south-east of Northern Ireland, close to the border with the Republic, in a valley between the Mourne Mountains to the east and the Ring of Gullion to the west. The Clanrye River and the Newry Canal run side by side through the centre. From above they create a long, narrow core that follows the valley floor toward Carlingford Lough.
The Newry Canal opened in 1742 and is regarded as the first summit-level canal built in Britain or Ireland. Its straight course still defines the shape of the city. Streets climb the slopes on both sides, so the map shows a dense centre along the water with housing spreading up the hillsides. The cathedral and older churches mark the historic town.
Newry was granted city status in 2002 and has long been a market and trading centre for people from both sides of the border. A Newry map poster traces the valley, the waterways and the main roads south toward Dundalk and north toward Belfast. The result is a compact picture of a place shaped by its position between hills, sea and border.

Clanrye River
The river winds alongside the canal through the centre. Its looser, natural curves make a gentle contrast with the canal's rigid line.
Hillside housing
Residential streets step up the valley sides to the east and west. They are drawn as layered curves that follow the contours and frame the narrow centre.
