Mapa
Nový Jičín Map Poster & Print
Nový Jičín was laid out in the Middle Ages to a clear plan, and the map still shows it. At the centre is a large square, close to rectangular, lined with arcaded burgher houses. A regular grid of lanes surrounds it, and the curve of the former fortifications is still visible where later ring streets trace the old edge.
The town is in the Moravian-Silesian Region, in the gently rising land between the Oder valley and the Beskydy foothills. It is known for its long hat-making tradition, which grew into a major industry here in the nineteenth century. It is also known for a main square that ranks among the best-preserved arcaded squares in the Czech lands.
A Nový Jičín map poster makes the logic of a planned medieval town easy to read. The square is a clean open rectangle, the lanes run off at right angles, and the later suburbs loosen as they climb toward the hills. It is a small place with an unusually legible plan.

Old town outline
The streets that follow the line of the former walls still enclose the historic core. On the map they form a rounded boundary around the tight medieval grid.
Foothill edges
Beyond the centre, streets bend and thin out where the ground rises. This hints at the Beskydy uplands to the south-east and softens the edges of the map.
