Paltan Map Poster & Print
Paltan lies in the centre of Dhaka, between the older lanes to the south and the commercial blocks of Motijheel to the east. From above it reads as a crowded field of short streets and narrow lanes, broken by a few large open shapes: the outline of the national stadium, the open ground of the maidan and the broad roads that carry traffic across the city core.
The neighbourhood's name comes from the word for a military platoon, a reminder of the troops stationed here in the colonial period. Paltan Maidan became one of the city's best-known public gathering grounds, and the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, with its distinctive cube-like form, stands at the edge of the district, close to the stadium and the main commercial avenues.
A Paltan map poster captures the density that defines central Dhaka: thousands of small line segments packed between a handful of wide avenues. In black and white the pattern becomes almost textile-like, with the stadium and open grounds acting as calm pale islands. It suits anyone who has lived, studied or worked in the district and knows how these few blocks connect.

Mosque precinct
Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and its surrounding complex create a distinct block at the district's edge, an easy point of orientation on the finished poster.
Lane density
Between the main avenues, Paltan's streets split into short lanes and alleys, producing the fine, crowded texture that makes central Dhaka so recognisable when drawn from above.

Zašto Paltan
Mapa koja nešto znači
People hang a map of Paltan to keep a precise piece of Dhaka close: the lanes around an old office, a family home or a first apartment in the city. The poster shows the district as it actually connects, rather than as a postcard view.
You can change the title, add a subtitle such as a date or a name, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the $9 HD files or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
