Mapa
Petaluma Map Poster & Print
Petaluma lies in southern Sonoma County, where the Petaluma River winds through a flat valley towards San Pablo Bay. The river, a tidal slough for much of its length, gives the city its defining curve, and the historic downtown sits directly on its banks. Around it, neighbourhoods fan out to the east and west, and Highway 101 cuts through the middle on its way north.
Petaluma's downtown was largely spared by the 1906 earthquake, which is why it keeps an unusual number of nineteenth-century buildings with iron fronts. The town was once known as the egg basket of the world for its poultry farms, and its streets have appeared in films including American Graffiti and Peggy Sue Got Married.
A Petaluma map poster pairs the organic line of the river with the regular blocks of the old town and the looser suburbs beyond. It is a balanced, readable composition, and one that suits people who know the valley well, from its farms and hillsides to its riverside walks and turning basin.
