Princeton is best known for its university, and the campus dominates the map with a dense field of quadrangles, courtyards and footpaths south of Nassau Street. Nassau Hall sits at its historic heart. In 1783 the Continental Congress met there, which made Princeton the capital of the United States for a few months.
South of the campus, Lake Carnegie stretches in a long, narrow line. It was created in the early 1900s for the university's rowing crews, and the Delaware and Raritan Canal runs alongside it. North of Nassau Street, Palmer Square and the town's residential areas form a quiet pattern of tree-lined blocks and winding lanes.

The long, slender lake runs along the southern edge of campus. Together with the parallel canal, it draws a clean pair of lines across the lower part of the poster.
Nassau Street
The town's main street divides campus from downtown. It is a single straight axis, with shops and Palmer Square on one side and university gates on the other.
