Pukekohe East is a rural area on the southern edge of the Auckland region, just east of Pukekohe town. It is mostly open land, not a dense settlement. On a map it appears as a network of country roads running between paddocks and fields, with scattered houses and small clusters of streets where the roads meet.
The ground here is part of the volcanic landscape of south Auckland, and its fertile soils are why the Pukekohe district is known across New Zealand for growing vegetables. From above, the fields form a patchwork of rectangles, bounded by roads and shelterbelts that run in long, straight lines over the gently rolling land.
