Qaşr-e Qand lies in Sistan and Baluchestan province, in the dry, mountainous south-east of Iran. The land is harsh and open, and water decides where people settle. On the map, the town and its cultivated land follow a valley, where streets and palm groves gather along the lower ground. Bare hills rise on either side.
The street pattern is loose and practical. A main road runs through the town, and smaller lanes branch off towards homes and gardens. Beyond the edge of town, tracks lead into the hills and to nearby villages. The contrast between the green valley floor and the dry slopes is the main visual feature of the area.
