Root River mouth
The river winds east through the city and widens into a harbour at the lakefront. It is the one strong curve in an otherwise orderly layout, and it anchors the downtown blocks around it.

Mapa
Racine Map Poster & Print
Racine sits on the western shore of Lake Michigan, between Milwaukee and Chicago. From above it reads as a regular American street grid pressed against a long, nearly straight coastline. The Root River breaks the pattern, looping through the north side before it empties into the harbour. That one curve gives the whole map its focal point.
The downtown blocks sit close to the river mouth, with the marina and breakwaters marking the edge of the lake. Away from the shore the grid loosens into residential streets and larger industrial parcels. On the western fringe, highways and farmland take over. The lake takes up a broad, blank field on one side of the composition, which makes a Racine map poster feel open and calm.
The city is known as the home of SC Johnson, whose Frank Lloyd Wright–designed administration building is an architectural landmark. It is also known for its Danish heritage, best remembered in the flaky oval pastry called kringle. Neither shows up as a line on the map, but both are part of why people feel attached to this stretch of lakefront.

Lake Michigan shoreline
A long, clean edge runs the full height of the map, with breakwaters and marina basins notched into it. The open water beyond leaves generous negative space.
Rectilinear street grid
Evenly spaced avenues and cross streets fill the land side. They drift slightly in alignment between neighbourhoods, giving the pattern subtle texture up close.
