San Andrés Cholula lies on the western edge of Puebla, in the valley overlooked by the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. From above, the town shares its historic area with neighbouring San Pedro Cholula, and the two form a single urban field around the ancient pyramid mound, which is topped by a church and remains one of the largest pyramid structures in the world by volume.
The map shows two very different patterns. Old barrios keep the colonial grid of small blocks and chapels, a legacy of Cholula's many churches. To the east, newer districts spread out with broad avenues, shopping centres and gated residential areas that connect toward Puebla's Angelópolis zone. The Universidad de las Américas Puebla occupies a large campus within the municipality.
