Shahe is an area in Nanshan District, in the western part of Shenzhen. On the map it looks strongly urban. Wide avenues and expressways run east to west, and large blocks of residential towers, offices and parks fill the land between them. To the south, the reclaimed shoreline of Shenzhen Bay forms a straight, engineered edge, with parks along the water.
The area is best known for Overseas Chinese Town, a planned district with theme parks, museums and green spaces. Its winding paths and lakes stand out from the regular city blocks around it. To the north, the city meets hills and park land. Shahe sits in the middle, a mix of planned leisure spaces and dense housing.
