The great reservoir spreads to the east with an intricate, branching shoreline, the largest single shape on the map and a striking contrast to the industrial areas.

Singrauli Map Poster
Singrauli is less a single city than a cluster of towns, mining settlements and industrial townships spread across a wide area on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The district headquarters at Waidhan forms one of the main centres, while other settlements grew beside mines and power stations. On the map, the pattern is fragmented, with pockets of streets separated by open land and industrial sites.
The area is often called India's energy capital. Large open-cast coal mines operated by Northern Coalfields supply several major thermal power stations, including NTPC's Vindhyachal plant, one of the largest in the country. Rail lines and roads connect mines and plants, and their straight lines run across the landscape between the townships.
To the east lies the Rihand reservoir, also known as Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar, a large irregular body of water created by a dam in the early 1960s. The Singrauli map poster captures this unusual composition: water, open mines and scattered settlements, a portrait of a place shaped by industry rather than a traditional town plan.

Open-cast mines
Large mining areas appear as broad open zones between settlements, giving the map an unusual pattern of empty space and scattered activity.
Industrial townships
Planned residential colonies built for mine and power plant workers show up as small, neat grids set apart from the older, more irregular towns.
