Soo is an inland city in the northeast of Kagoshima Prefecture, on the upland stretching toward the Miyazaki border. It was formed in 2005 by merging several towns, and the map shows it. There is no single dense core, but a few modest centres linked by roads through farmland and wooded hills.
This is agricultural country, known for livestock and field crops. From above, the pattern is one of curving roads following valleys and ridges, with scattered clusters of buildings in between. Small rivers thread through the lower ground, and the forest cover leaves large calm areas on the sheet.
A Soo map poster is less about streets than about the balance between settlement and land. Lines of road trace the contours, town centres appear as small knots, and the empty space carries as much of the design as the drawn lines. It is a gentle, spacious map that rewards a slower look.
