Swift Current is the main city of southwest Saskatchewan, set in open, almost treeless prairie. The railway shaped its layout. Downtown streets line up with the tracks, and residential grids spread out from there in tidy rectangles. The Trans-Canada Highway runs along the northern side of the city and carries traffic between Regina and Medicine Hat.
Swift Current Creek, the stream that gave the city its name, winds through the grid in loose meanders, and a green corridor follows its banks. The contrast is what makes the map worth looking at: straight surveyed streets on one hand and a meandering creek on the other, with open farmland reaching to every edge.
