Theniet el Had lies in Tissemsilt province in northern Algeria, in the mountains of the Ouarsenis. The town occupies a pass and the slopes around it, and its map is shaped by the terrain. Streets climb and curve with the hillside, and the main roads thread through the gap in the mountains toward neighbouring towns.
Just above the town lies Theniet El Had National Park, one of Algeria's oldest protected areas, known above all for its forests of Atlas cedar. The forest has no streets, so on the poster it becomes a large, open field of tone, a strong contrast with the dense town below.
