Tomobe is a district of Kasama in central Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo. It was an independent town until 2006, when it merged with Kasama and Iwama. The area sits on flat to gently rolling ground west of Mito, and its built-up core is compact, with a denser pattern of streets around the station and houses dispersed along roads into the countryside.
Tomobe Station is the junction where the Mito Line meets the Joban Line, and the tracks draw strong diagonal lines across the map. Expressways also meet nearby at a large interchange. Around the town the landscape is a patchwork of rice fields, small woods and farmland typical of the northern Kanto plain. The wider Kasama area is known for its pottery tradition, Kasama ware.
