River and islands
The Wisconsin River widens through the city, and several islands sit in the channel. It is the dominant shape on the map, and it runs through the middle of the frame.

Mapa
Wisconsin Rapids Map Poster & Print
The Wisconsin River runs straight through Wisconsin Rapids and divides it into east and west sides. The river is broad here and broken by islands. It is crossed by bridges and interrupted by dams that once powered the town's industry. The street grids on the two banks do not line up exactly, which gives the map a slight tension along the water.
The city grew around papermaking, and for much of the twentieth century it was the home of Consolidated Papers. The mills along the river still shape the view from above. The surrounding area of central Wisconsin is also known for cranberry growing, and the rectangular marsh beds show up clearly on maps outside the city.
A Wisconsin Rapids map poster is anchored by the river. The river is the widest element on the sheet, with the grids on either side forming a frame. In a minimal print, the islands and the dams give the water line texture and interest.

Two offset grids
The streets on the east and west banks follow slightly different alignments. Where the two patterns meet at the bridges, the map picks up a subtle rhythm.
Mill riverfront
Large industrial sites along the water are the remains of the papermaking history. On the map they appear as broad solid blocks next to the finer residential streets.
