Round old town
The historic centre forms a compact, almost circular outline around the market square. It is one of the easiest medieval plans in the region to recognise from above.

Mapa
Żary Map Poster & Print
Żary is in western Poland, in historical Lower Lusatia, not far from the German border. The map shows a clear medieval core. Its streets are packed within an almost round outline, with the market square at the centre, and the more open blocks of the later town spread around it. On the outskirts, the streets give way to forest and farmland on gently rolling ground.
For centuries the town was known by its German name, Sorau, and it was shaped by the noble families who owned it. They left a castle and a palace complex next to the old town. Today Żary is one of the larger towns in the Lubusz region.
A Żary map poster emphasises the rounded shape of the centre, the ring of streets around it and the roads leading out into the green country beyond. It is a simple, balanced drawing that works well on its own or alongside maps of other places.

Castle and palace
Next to the old town, the castle and palace complex of the former lords occupies a large block. It shows up on the map as a distinct, more open space.
Green outskirts
Beyond the later districts, the streets thin out into forest and fields. The town's edge is gentle and open, and the map feels spacious around the dense centre.
