Cricklewood lies in northwest London, where the boroughs of Barnet, Brent and Camden meet. Its spine is the Edgware Road, which here follows the route of Roman Watling Street in a long, dead-straight line. Cricklewood Broadway forms the local high street, and from above the neighbourhood is a close pattern of Victorian and Edwardian terraces on either side.
The Midland Main Line and its railway sidings run just to the west, a wide band of tracks that has shaped the area since the nineteenth century. Cricklewood also has an aviation past: Handley Page built aircraft here in the early twentieth century, and the area once had its own aerodrome. Gladstone Park, on a hill, offers long views over London.
