Orderly street grid
Long parallel streets and rectangular blocks make up most of the urban area. They give the map a steady rhythm that is easy to read from across a room.

Pau dos Ferros Map Poster & Print
Pau dos Ferros is a city in the western interior of Rio Grande do Norte, in Brazil's Northeast, close to the borders with Paraíba and Ceará. It is the commercial and service centre for the surrounding Alto Oeste region. On a map that role shows clearly, since the town is much denser and larger than the small settlements around it.
The layout is mostly orthogonal, with long streets and rectangular blocks spread over fairly level ground. Highways arrive from several directions and become the main avenues. At the edges the grid gives way to lots, dirt tracks and the dry scrubland of the sertão, where watercourses and reservoirs stand out as the most distinctive features.
A Pau dos Ferros map poster shows a town of the Northeastern interior in plain terms: the regular grid, the roads that tie it to the region and the open land around it. The black and white treatment suits the strong light and sparse landscape of the place and gives the plan a quiet, graphic presence.

Regional roads
Highways from neighbouring municipalities converge on the town and draw strong lines through the grid, showing its role as the hub of the Alto Oeste.
Sertão surroundings
Outside the built-up area the map opens into sparse tracks, watercourses and reservoirs across semi-arid land. This forms a wide, light margin around the dense centre.
