Souto Soares is a municipality in the interior of Bahia, on the western side of the Chapada Diamantina region. On a map the town is compact: a handful of streets meeting around a central square, with the built-up area ending quickly and giving way to rural roads, fields and rough ground. Most of what the map shows is the surrounding landscape, not the town itself.
