Anta is in Baran district in south-eastern Rajasthan, part of the Hadoti region, which is greener and more agricultural than the desert west of the state. The land is level and cultivated, and the town sits among fields and irrigation channels about an hour's drive east of Kota. On the map, a dense old core is surrounded by looser newer housing along the main roads.
The town is best known for the Anta Gas Power Station, a large natural-gas plant built by NTPC. Its plant, cooling structures and residential township stand out on the map as a planned area with regular streets, distinct from the organic pattern of the old town. A railway line and state roads link Anta to Kota and Baran.
