Baskil is a district town in Elazığ province in eastern Turkey, west of the provincial capital and on the road toward Malatya. From above, it is a compact settlement on sloping upland ground. Its streets gently follow the contours of the land, and open, dry hills rise all around it.
The area is known across Turkey for its apricots. Baskil apricots are sold under the town's name, and orchards fill the land around the settlement. On a map these orchards appear as a finely divided zone of plots that encircles the built-up area. That makes the border between town and countryside soft rather than sharp.
