Burāri lies in the north of Delhi, near the edge of the capital territory and close to the western bank of the Yamuna. On a map it appears as a large, densely built area of narrow lanes and closely packed blocks. A few main roads cross it and carry most of the traffic toward the rest of the city.
Much of Burāri developed over the last few decades as Delhi expanded outward, and many neighbourhoods grew step by step rather than to a single plan. The result is a street pattern of great density and variety, with irregular blocks, short lanes and occasional open grounds. At poster scale it becomes an intricate, finely detailed texture.
To the east, the land opens toward the Yamuna floodplain, where fields and open ground replace the dense streets. This gives the map a strong contrast between built and unbuilt space.
