Caculé is in the southwestern interior of Bahia, a region of dry uplands and scattered farms known as the sertão. On a map the town is compact. A few main streets meet near the centre, and around them lies a looser web of blocks that thins out into open land crossed by rural roads and tracks.
Like many towns in the Bahian interior, Caculé serves as a local centre for the farms and smaller settlements around it.
