Godda sits in the northeastern corner of Jharkhand, in the Santhal Pargana region, and serves as the headquarters of the district that shares its name. From above it reads as a small, dense core of short lanes and irregular blocks, with a handful of main roads leaving it in different directions. Past the last houses the lines thin out quickly, and fields, ponds and scattered villages take over the frame.

The town is a modest place of around fifty thousand people, and its map has no grid or planned avenues. Streets bend to follow old paths and property lines, meet at loose junctions and gather near the market and the administrative buildings. It is the kind of layout that grew one building at a time, and at poster scale that shows up as a fine, uneven texture rather than a pattern.

A Godda map poster keeps that texture in plain black lines on white, so the knot of the centre and the long roads running out into the countryside are easy to follow. Beyond the town, the wider district is known for coal and for a large power station that sends electricity across the border to Bangladesh, but the poster stays close to the streets people know.
