Malbun is Liechtenstein's only ski resort. It lies in a high valley in the country's mountainous east, close to the Austrian border. On a map it is small and self-contained. A few streets of chalets and hotels gather in the bottom of a bowl, the ski slopes rise on the surrounding sides, and one road leads in from the lower valley below.
The road climbs from the Rhine valley and passes through a tunnel before reaching Malbun, which gives the resort a secluded feel. It is a family-friendly place with gentle terrain, well suited to learning. It is also a starting point for summer hikes into the mountains, and some trails follow the ridges along the border.
