Marampilly lies in the Ernakulam district of central Kerala, in the busy corridor east of Aluva. As in much of this part of the state, there is no sharp line between town and village. Houses, shops and small institutions spread along a network of roads and lanes, with coconut palms, gardens and paddy land filling the gaps.
From above, the street pattern is organic rather than planned. Roads bend to follow old property boundaries and gentle changes in level, and narrow lanes branch off to reach clusters of homes. The Periyar, Kerala's longest river, flows nearby through Aluva. Water and vegetation shape the wider setting as much as the roads do.
