Moore lies between Oklahoma City and Norman in central Oklahoma, on open prairie that was surveyed into square-mile sections long before the suburbs arrived. From above, those section-line roads form a strong lattice, and inside each square sit curving subdivisions, schools and parks. Interstate 35 and the parallel railway run north to south through the city, dividing it roughly in half.
The town began as a railway stop in the land-run era and grew rapidly as a commuter suburb in the late twentieth century. Moore is also widely known for the severe tornadoes that struck it, notably in 1999 and 2013, and for the way the community rebuilt, including new storm shelters in its schools.
A Moore map poster is about calm geometry: the quiet discipline of the grid, the long straight corridor of the interstate and the small curves of residential streets tucked inside each mile.
