Munster is a town in Lake County, in the north-west corner of Indiana. It sits against the Illinois state line, within the wider Chicago area. Its western edge on the map is a straight political boundary rather than a natural one. The streets on both sides line up with it, so the town feels firmly set in the region's survey grid.
Inside that frame the pattern is residential and calm. Main roads follow the square-mile grid, and curving subdivisions, cul-de-sacs and school grounds fill the spaces between them. The Little Calumet River crosses the northern part of town. It brings a band of wetland, parkland and flood embankments that breaks the regular order.
