Obala lies in the Centre region of Cameroon, north of the capital Yaoundé, and serves as the administrative seat of the Lekié department. The surrounding country is made up of rolling uplands, forest patches and cultivated plots, and on the map the town appears as a cluster of streets gathered where the main roads meet.
The road leading north from Yaoundé passes through Obala, and the town has grown along it, with side streets branching off into residential quarters. Beyond the centre, the built-up area thins into farmland and small settlements scattered across the hills, linked by a network of tracks.
Lekié is known as an agricultural area, and the landscape reflects that, with fields and gardens filling the spaces between villages.
