Pinecrest is a village in Miami-Dade County, south of Coral Gables and west of Biscayne Bay. It was incorporated in 1996. The map is defined by contrast. The main arterial roads follow Miami's strict grid, while the residential streets inside it curve, loop and end in cul-de-sacs among large wooded lots.
The village is closely associated with Pinecrest Gardens. The site was once home to Parrot Jungle, a well-known South Florida attraction, and is now a municipal park with tropical gardens and water features. Pinecrest's quiet residential character and green canopy make it one of the most leafy parts of the metro area.
A Pinecrest map poster shows long straight avenues forming a frame, with the softer pattern of lanes and canals inside it. South Dixie Highway runs along the edge, and the scattered cul-de-sacs give the drawing a relaxed, organic texture. It is suburban Miami at its most green and spacious.
