Pleszew is a county town in Greater Poland, in the west-central part of the country between Kalisz and Jarocin. Like many towns in the region, it grew around a market square. The main streets still lead into that square from every direction, and it remains the clear centre of the town plan.
From above, the old core is a compact arrangement of blocks around the rynek. It is surrounded by later layers: pre-war streets, blocks of flats from the socialist period and newer single-family housing at the edges. A railway line and regional roads pass through the town, and beyond them lies the flat, open farmland of Greater Poland.
