União da Vitória Map Poster & Print
União da Vitória lies in southern Paraná, on the banks of the Iguaçu River, and shares a continuous urban area with Porto União in neighbouring Santa Catarina. From above, the two towns read as one. The river curves along the northern side, the grid of streets fills the land beside it, and a railway line marks much of the boundary between the two states.
The towns grew as a river port and rail junction, at a point where the Iguaçu was navigable for boats heading downstream. The surrounding region was the scene of the Contestado War in the early twentieth century, a conflict tied partly to land and the railway. Living beside the river has also meant floods, and the one in 1983 is still remembered as especially severe.
A União da Vitória map poster captures an unusual urban shape: two cities, two states and one continuous grid, all organised around a broad river bend. The Iguaçu gives the composition a strong, flowing edge, and the railway draws the line through the streets that divides the pair.

Twin-city border
The boundary between Paraná and Santa Catarina runs through the joined urban area, largely along the railway. It splits one street grid between two states.
Railway spine
Tracks and the old station area cut through the middle of town. They recall the rail junction that shaped the city's growth.
