Vasind lies in Thane district of Maharashtra, on the Central Railway line that runs from Mumbai toward Kasara and the Western Ghats. Its station is served by Mumbai suburban trains, which link the town with the wider metropolitan region even though it sits well beyond the city's dense core. Industry has played a large part in its growth.
From above, Vasind is shaped by the railway, which runs through the town as a straight, dominant line. Streets gather on either side, and industrial sites appear as large, simple blocks that contrast with the finer grain of housing.
