Viewpark lies in North Lanarkshire, near Uddingston, on the eastern side of the Glasgow conurbation. Most of it was built as a planned residential area in the twentieth century. From above, it shows the typical layout of a Scottish housing scheme: crescents, closes and short connecting streets, laid out in regular blocks with open green spaces between them.
The area sits close to several of central Scotland's main motorways and their junctions. These wide, sweeping roads frame the community on the map and contrast sharply with the fine residential streets.
