Yoshioka is the central area of Taiwa town in Miyagi Prefecture, north of Sendai. It grew up as a post station on the Ōshū Kaidō, the historic road that ran north from Edo through this part of Japan. On a map, that history still shows: the main street runs in a long line through the town, with older lots stretching back from it.
Around this spine, newer residential areas and roads have spread over the surrounding low hills and farmland.
