Zango lies in Luanda Province, on the south-eastern side of Angola's capital region, and is best known for its large planned housing developments. Built in phases over recent decades, these districts were designed to house families relocated from central Luanda as well as newcomers to a fast-growing metropolis, and they continue to expand.
From above the pattern is unmistakable. Uniform rows of houses and apartment blocks fill rectangular sectors, separated by straight access roads, while open ground and informal settlements fill the gaps between them. It is one of the clearest examples of planned repetition on any map of the region, with each phase readable as its own cluster.
The main road connections run back toward Viana and central Luanda, tying the district into the wider urban area. A Zango map poster records a place still in formation, where fresh street grids meet open land and the line between city and countryside keeps moving outward year by year. For many residents it is simply where family life happens.
