Abrīsham lies in Isfahan province, in the fertile plain to the southwest of the city of Isfahan. The name means silk in Persian. From above, the town shows the compact, closely built fabric typical of older Iranian settlements, with narrow lanes weaving between walled plots and a few wider roads cutting through to connect it with neighbouring towns.
The surrounding land belongs to the basin of the Zayandeh Rud, the river that has sustained farming around Isfahan for centuries.
