Twin with Araure
Acarigua and Araure have grown into one another. On the map the streets run continuously from one to the other, and you cannot see where one city stops.

Acarigua Map Poster & Print
Acarigua lies at the foot of the Andes where the land flattens into the Venezuelan llanos. From above it is a broad and mostly regular grid of streets. Main avenues run through it in straight lines, and a river passes close to the town. The city has grown into its neighbour, Araure, so on a map the two read as one continuous urban area, with only the street names telling them apart.
The surrounding plains are some of the most productive farmland in the country. Acarigua has grown as a centre for grain growing and processing, and the fields around it show up as large, even plots cut by rural roads. Highways connect the city with the Andean foothills to the west and with the rest of the llanos to the east. That gives the map a clear set of radiating lines.
An Acarigua map poster puts a simple, orderly layout on paper. The grid is steady, the highways are long and straight, and at the edges the city gives way to farmland. In black and white, the difference between the dense blocks and the open plain is especially clear. It is a quiet, graphic image of a place built on flat land and agriculture.

Plains grid
On the flat llanos the streets keep a mostly regular layout. The result is a calm pattern of blocks with a few wide avenues cutting across it.
Farmland edge
Past the last streets, large fields and rural roads take over. The map fades gently from the urban grid into open plain.
