Adam is a town in Oman's Ad Dakhiliyah governorate, at the southern edge of the interior settlements. Beyond it, open desert stretches toward the central plains. It is known as the birthplace of Imam Ahmad bin Said, who founded the Al Said dynasty that still rules Oman. On a map, Adam's green heart stands out clearly against the empty country around it.
The town grew around its date gardens, irrigated by falaj channels, a traditional water system. Near the palms, the old quarters form a tight, irregular network of lanes between mud-brick houses. Newer neighbourhoods spread out in a looser, more regular layout. Straight modern roads cut across the plain to connect Adam with Nizwa and the rest of the country.
